Renal/Pancreas Transplants
At many hospitals, renal/pancreas transplant patients are often grouped with other transplant patients. But at Medical City, weve developed a dedicated program to meet the specific needs of these patients. A team of specialists proficient in the treatment of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) closely monitor and evaluate this very special group of patients. Treatment options include medical management, vascular access for dialysis, an acute dialysis program and a transplant program approved by the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS). Our program also features laparoscopic-assisted donor nephrectomy as a surgical technique for living kidney donors. For the donor, this technique is less painful, decreases the length of the hospital stay and provides a rapid return to normal activity.
Medical City is involved in the development and implementation of the first Paired Donor Exchange Program in Texas. This program works to pair otherwise incompatible transplant patients and their donors with those who have compatible blood types. |
