Innovations and Milestones
- First hospital in North Texas to be recognized as a Magnet hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) for excellence in nursing care
- In 1999, the Department of Heath and Human Services recognized our Heart Transplant Program as the top program in the country in patient survival while waiting for a transplant
- In 1996, Medical City introduced both the pneumatic and electric HeartMate left ventricular assist devices to North Texas. The electric HeartMate allows patients to stay at home while waiting for a donor heart to become available
- The Stem Cell Transplant Program is accredited by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) and in fact is the only hospital in North Texas to be FACT-accredited in both adult and pediatric programs
- The Renal/Pancreas Program has performed multi-organ transplants including simultaneous kidney-pancreas and heart-kidney transplants
- Minimally invasive laparoscopic-assisted donor nephrectomies are offered as a surgical technique for living kidney donors
